Dear Fellow Flyfishers
The
rivers in and around Rhodes have had a bumper boost of cold, oxygenated, clean
water with the last good rain and heavy snowfalls. In fact, I have not seen
the rivers looking this good in Spring for the last 11 years.
With the season opening on the 1st of September, flyfishers should enjoy the best spring fishing in years. In Autumn last year, many trout were averaging between 14 and 18 inches with the odd 3 – 5 lb fish in between.
I have written an article on the bead head nymphs to use this spring, which may be appearing in the next (Sept.) issue of “The Complete Fly Fisherman.”
We have just come back from Mozambique to do an article on Indigo Charters (a few photos in the gallery). P.J Jacobs happened to be at the lodge at the same time and we had time to discuss a couple of tactics with all the bad weather around. We did however catch some big bloodsnappers, pickhandle baracuda, king mackerel, Queenfish, Indian mirrow fish and small kingfish and reef fish. The October issue of “The Complete Fly Fisherman” will feature an article on the trip and what Indigo Charters have to offer.
This
weekend a couple of use will be traveling to Dordrecht to fish one of their
prime lakes. Be on the lookout for the report back on our website www.linecasters.co.za
Linecasters have had a number of requests about guided trips to Mozambique and consequently we have decided to plan an early November trip. Anyone interested should contact us as soon as possible. Obviously we can only spend a certain amount of time on the island.
