The Rhodes Trail Run and Mountain Bike Challenge ...
Rhodes village fills
up and buzzes in July over the weekend of the Ultra Marathon and again in
October when we hold the annual Mountain Bike Challenge. All accommodation
is fully booked over these weekends at all the surrounding farms and even
as far as Barkly East.
July The Rhodes Trail Run
This race is run by up to 350 runners who brave the extreme conditions of this area. Snow, sleet, icy cold winds and temperatures of up to minus fifteen degrees Celsius. Yet, despite these conditions these tough runners come back year after year to run.
Mountain Bike Challenge
The
Mountain Bike Challenge in October is raced under more favorable conditions
being in spring. The race is extremely challenging nonetheless, and we have
seen many a racer at the end of the race say “never again”, with
frost bitten skin on their knuckles. The race is 84,4km long and takes the
rider on a spectacular journey up the scenic Naudes Nek Pass 8700ft. above
sea level. The cyclists then push on to the top of the world - 3km through
Lesotho and on down past the Tiffindell Ski Resort and down to Rhodes. A magnificent
waterfall can be seen on the route amidst the awesome mountain range that
we have here.
Anyone interested in finding out more about the races can contact Linecasters and we will forward you to the organizers.
